Seems hard to believe that 2 months ago tonight we were waiting for the ambulance to come to HMH and transport Gabie to Shriner's Hospital. At this point I think the shock and the thinking things would be better in the morning had worn off and the worry had set in. (I still chuckle at myself when I called Stacy from school to 'possibly' arrange a sub - thinking I "might" be able to still be there in the morning...let's just say I was pretty clueless as to how bad it really was). I'm so thankful that Stephanie and Travis made the trip down to Galveston with us that night. Stephanie drove me in our car, while Travis drove their car so they could get back home. Mark rode with Gabie. I'm thankful for that time I got to share with my sister. I have no idea what we talked about, or what she said, but I know that there was a certain understanding there. Her daughter had taken a trip in an ambulance too, and at the time neither or us knew the outcome of either situation.
As God continues to work in our lives He proves again and again that He is Sovereign. We are created for His glory, and in order to glorify Him we must submit ourselves to His sovereign hand. In His infinite wisdom God has decided how we best bring glory to Him. In this season of our lives we are praising God for allowing us to bring Him glory through trials. The great thing about the human mind is it's motivation to get better at something, and the great thing about the human body is it's capacity to heal. We are motivated to give glory to God as we see Gabie's body healing more and more and getting better every day. What an awesome testament to God's goodness and faithfulness!
In the meantime, I haven't had a chance to say much about the amazing school we are a part of now. We are so thankful! If you ever are interested in classical Christian education, just ask! I'd love to share our experience with you. In the mornings we have assembly and sing hymns each day. This morning we sang this hymn and I thought it spoke of His great love and mercy for us, brought tears to my eyes as I reflected back on the past 2 months:
Arise, My Soul, Arise
(by Charles Wesley)
Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:
Before the throne my surety stands,
Before the throne my surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.
He ever lives above, for me to intercede;
His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead:
His blood atoned for all our race,
His blood atoned for all our race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.
Five bleeding wounds He bears; received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers; they strongly plead for me:
“Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
“Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
“Nor let that ransomed sinner die!”
The Father hears Him pray, His dear anointed One;
He cannot turn away, the presence of His Son;
His Spirit answers to the blood,
His Spirit answers to the blood,
And tells me I am born of God.
My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear:
With confidence I now draw nigh,
With confidence I now draw nigh,
And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.
Arise, arise, arise, arise my soul arise!
Arise, arise, arise, arise my soul arise!
Shake off thy guilty fears and rise!
