Last Game
updates...
Tuesday - M, A & R left bright and early for Aberdeen. R had surgery at 8 and had her tonsils and adnoids out. M had surgery early afternoon for a deviated septum. Both did great.
Meanwhile, E & G got to hand out with grandma and grandpa who did all the normal running around to t-ball, dance, feeding and entertaining. Eliya had a home t-ball game so they got to see her play.
Wednesday - M, A & R got to hang out at the hospital until late afternoon. E & G got to play some more with grandma and grandpa - they had so much fun together that I'm not sure they were real happy to see us when we got home, but we enjoyed a late supper together of grandma's lasagna and just relaxing.
Thursday - Grandma and Grandpa had to head home, which made everyone sad to see them go, the girls had so much fun playing and they helped us out so much! Thanks for coming!

T-Ball
Eliya is old enough to play T-ball this year and is loving it - although I'm not sure how much she 'gets' it. Tonight was her first game (all of 2 innings) and our conversation went something like this:
Mom: Eliya it's your first t-ball game tonight
Eliya: Yay!!!! (jumping up and down) pause...What's a game?
Mom: When you do what you do in practice only you play with kids from another town.
Eliya: Oh...why?
Mom: umm......
Then while she's warming up - which consists of her and Kirstie throwing the ball toward the other one and then having to chase it down behind them I notice that she looks pretty goofy throwing the ball - her glove is on the wrong hand! Ha! So I call out to the coach and she helps her out. She hit the ball and the first time it took her about 10 seconds to realize she needed to run - the second time was better. And by the last ball that went right by her into the outfield she finally figured out that she needed to chase it down and throw it back in - I thought that was pretty good progress. Happily they are almost all about that clueless and it's hilarious and very cute to watch. She did a great job :0)

Crayons
I have decided that I don't like crayons. Yes, they are colorful and nontoxic and can entertain children for hours on end, however, I don't like them. See my children have found alternative ways for crayons to entertain them....
Last Tuesday night we were doing bank night for the relay for life on Friday. I get a call from Mark and 10pm, assuming he's wondering why I'm not home yet (things always take longer then I think they will). No, he was wondering if I had any ideas on how to get a crayon out of a nose. Um, I'll be right home.
I get home and Gabie who is still half-hysterical seems to have a small piece of crayon up her nose. Mark had seen it with the flashlight and tried to get it out but the minute he touched her she went hysterical screaming for me. So I come home - she's not much calmer for me mind you and in the hysterical-ness seems to have sucked it back pretty good cause I no longer can see it.
My first thought was doing the nasal rinse - this in and of itself was an adventure with two of us holding her down and trying to wash out her nose. No crayon. SO I called up to the hospital asking if they had some magic tool that helped them to remove crayone - nope, unless they can see it there is nothing they can do. We at this point it's almost midnight now so opt for some sleep.
I call the clinic the next day to ask them what to do. They said it's possible she just swallowed it and to just watch and see if she gets a sinus infection as that would be a sign that there's something still in there. But Wednesday afternoon she has green snot coming out just the nostril she put the crayon in....hmmmmm, not a good sign.
Thursday morning still green so I call the ENT - they want to see her. So Gabie and I drive all the way to Aberdeen (with the car that still stalls out/breaks down every couple of hours) to have him say he can't see it either, SOOOO the next step is to put her under and do a scope- ugh! The silver lining he says is that she may still work it out on her own, keep doing the sinus rinse in the meantime. Surgery scheduled for next Wednesday.
Saturday morning I walk into the girls room and caught red handed (in more ways then one since they were using red crayons!) Eliya and Gabie coloring all over the walls in their room. Their vanity, bed, walls, book shelves, etc......surprisingly enough I didn't yell and actually stayed quite calm. They have had every crayon, pensil, marker and any other device that might make marks or break off and lodge itself in some bodily crevise taken away until further notice.....
So needless to say, I don't like crayons anymore.

Relay for Life
My life has literally been consumed this past week getting things ready for the Relay for Life on Friday night. My friends Ellen and Bridget do SO MUCH for it - I don't know where they find the time, but I try to do what I can to help as much as possible. Our relay does this awesome thing based on Survivor which is just amazing. It's a series of challenges that teams (made up of groups of four) go through and slowly get eliminated until there is only one team declared the winner. It's a lot of work, but so much fun - and if you're helping to organize you get to try all of the different challenges and events which is really fun. One of the highlights was buildng a board with 64 panes of glass that we spray painted different colors and teams had to shoot out with a bow and arrow - the team with the least panes left was eliminated.
The night was fun - I was relieved that Mark and the girls went home so early - they all got a good night sleep. I think I got to bed around 4am and was planning on going back to help finish cleaning up but just fell asleep. This is the big event that Mark and I were raising $ with our marathon for as well. Our marathon raised over $800. That with the Trivia night and rummage sale we did, our team raised over $2000. Altogether the Relay brought in close to $22,000!!!! That's pretty amazing for a town of about 1,000 people.
One of the other major things we do is luminaries to honor those fighting/have fought cancer or in memory of those who have had cancer. My aunt Alice is currently fighting cancer (and could use prayers!) and so I did a luminaria in honor of her - keep up the fight!
